Research Overview

Research in the Department of Applied Physics is current centered around Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, and Biophysics.  We place particular emphasis on:

  • Quantum engineering, specifically quantum sensing, simulation, and computation;
  • Theoretical and experimental biophysics, taking a physics-based approach to complex problems in the life sciences;
  • Quantum materials, developing and characterizing novel quantum many-body systems;
  • Ultrafast science using both SLAC and table-top accelerators.
